Unhappy Studder!

Hey everyone!

I have a 97 F150 with a 4.2L V6 (manual) and am experiencing some hesitation during acceleration (usually 4th gear). I have to drop down a gear in order to eliminate this problem. I recently had a brand new ford engine installed, plugs etc. and thus am a little perplexed. Could it be something as simple as a fuel filter issue? Any suggestions before I have diagnostics run would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

my friends 97 was doing the same thing. it turned out to be a vacuum leak and a faulty O2 sensor. its running like new again.

fixed my neices by doing just what you thought. Fuel filter was causing the problems.

Not an expensive fix to try either.

Both of them sound right, but i think that i would have to go wth plug. If it was a fuel filter, it would do it more than just one gear. That doesnt make sense. But, the vacuum leak does make sense and the o2 sensor would cause the same problem. I would try those first, and see where it gets u.
