new amsoil air filter installed

Amsoil hasn't made a replacement filter for the 97-up F-150's and Expeditions until now. I just picked mine up today and installed it in my 97 Expy 5.4.
Like other Amsoil filters it's 2 stage with coarse material on the outside and finer material on the inside. It comes pre-oiled and ready to install. I noticed immediately that it seemed to accelerate smoother and was only very slightly louder than stock when the throttle is really opened up.
I've got the battery disconnected now and will see if the computer takes a different "set" after that.

How long do you need to keep the battery disconnected for a reset to happen?

I'm not exactly sure about the minimum amount of time but mine was disconnected for about 45 mins while I did other things in the garage. This is my 2nd day now and it definately feels more responsive; no question about it.

To clear the computer, disconnect the negative battery cable, turn on the headlights for 5 minutes to drain the power in the system. Hook the cable back up and you are ready. Oh Yeah, turn off the headlights!!

Tex, do you then just start and drive, or do you need to let it idle and learn for a while?

If that's what you are getting in the city with a 5.4, what are you getting highway? 25, 26?
Are you sure you are calculating your MPG's right?

Not to sound **** or anything, but what's your interpretation of a complete Amsoil change over? Just curious, because I've held off on buying/making an intake until the Amsoil unit came out to see the results. Thanks in advance.

That is almost 26 mpg. You are yanking our chains. The best I can get out of my 1999 5.4 is about 16 mpg.

Describe your vehicle and modifications again...

I'm with Temp1 on this one. I see the B.S. flag at the top of pole.

I think that we have to get past the mpg gains.

I don't think you will see any significant gains over the life of the vehile. In my opinion the main differnect betweent the Amsoil and stock would be when they are dirty, The Amsoil will probably flow more air than a paper when they are both dirty.

Now the question, when you changed over to the Amsoil was your stock filter used or new? If it was already dirty just going to a new paper filter will net you more air flow.

I would say the biggest advantage to the Amsoil filter is it's filtration capabilities, It should be able to stop more dirt becuase of the depth type media and the oiled 2 stage foam.

I haven't ordered mine yet, but will sometime soon. I don't expect any gains over the stock filter as it has more surface area and will flow more air than what can go into the intake anyhow. I like the fact that I can reuse the filter and know for a fact that I'm providing better filtration effeciency over the stock.

The MPG claims are hoaky, as for the filter being better, I guess it very well could be better than the stock. However, I'd also have to say that if you notice "immediate better acceleration", it is probably a placebo, given the set-up of a pick-up, and just adding a filter, I can't see how it would be that easy to tell.
