I don't know too much about tranny's but I do know that these are electronically controled (for the most part)
If your fluid checks out I would try re-setting the pcm to see if that helps.
This is a common low fluid or air in the fluid concern.
Last but not least do a search in the tranny forum.

If you have normal fluid levels (as per the dipstick), I would take the truck in to have the pump tested. It's obviously incapable of delivering the hydraulic fluid at sufficient pressure.
An electronic problem would put the tranny in "safe" mode, and you'd have reverse and 1st/2nd gear. Hoppoing out of gear is a fluid pressure or fluid blockage issue. Either way, you need to see a transmission repair shop. The auto. tranny is one of the world's most complex mechanisms...do NOT screw with it on your own.

I would concur w/ moose, most trans shops will do an inspection relatively cheap. Prob. need to pull the pan and look for debris. Could be simple like the filter is fowled not letting enough fluid up to the pump or as bad as the pump is failing. I would bet on something mechanical from your description and the fact that you don't have a trouble light.
Drain the fluid through a filter, then take off the pan, if theres a lot of metal shavings or bigger pieces then your in trouble. If theres just a little bit of shavings then your alright and its probably electrical problems.
check the trans fluid/oil
and check the shifter linkage at the trans and in the colum
also turn your key on and off four to five times then leave it on the check engine light will flash count the flashes if it pauses re count the new flashes (5 flashes pause five more) is a code 55 then go ask the dealer what sensor it is good luck
