Truck Stalls After AF1 Fix?
Truck Stalls After AF1 Fix?
Lets see, the bolt that hold the support beam to the intake had come off. So a few days ago I had pulled it out, found a (long than I'd prefer) bolt to go in the hole. Seemed to fit pretty well, and took a propane torch to the bolt just to be sure it would fit. The Filter had also (kinda badly, atleast more than my likeing) rubbed the connectors under the filter pretty bad. Filter was also shady. I sprayed some undercoating over the connectors, but no real damage was done to them.
Well, I was in a hurry to get to work and forgot to plug in the, I think the MAF plug. The A B C D plug, the one closest to the filter. Truck shut down at a light and was idleing funny. Check engine light came on and I realized I forgot to plug that damn plug in and did it at work.
Well, check engine light is off, but whenever I start the truck off cold, normally the idle will be a bit sparatic after gasing it, and sometimes idle kinda low. The truck has shut off on me after start up a couple of times, and I just wanted to know what could be wrong. Also, it will give a kinda loud noise when idleing, but after you hit the gas it goes away.
I haven't had the time to look at it yet, but I finally have the day off tomorrow. I think first I will reset the battery considering it did run without that plug (I could tell something was screwy).
But what could that noise be? I thought the screw, but it's only at idle. The second you hit the gas the noise goes away, and considering I can hear it inside the cab (windows down, up, whatever) pretty well then what could that be? I am going to do my own diagnostic tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone (Mike! Be my hero!) had that problem?
It still has that weird idle noise, and shut off on my twice today when the engine was cold, once when going to work and once when leaving.
Any quick advice would be appreciated, as Wednesday is my only day off.

It sounds like you have a Vacuum leak. Did you move any of the Air inlet tube? Are the fittings tight? Have another look at those wires. They may be shorted out or the connectors contaminated with undercoating.

Did you do a computer reset. If you drove it around in open loop ( with the MAF unplugged) your computer probably learned some bad habits. Look for the above mentioned Vac. leak and then reset the computer. ( look up the thread that talks about resetting the computer and the procedure for getting it back to normal)
I did a computer reset, and the stall seems to be pretty much fine now.
But I'm getting this loud sort of metallic shaking noise from under neath the truck. And it is all while it idles. And it comes and goes, but it is quite loud. I can't tell exactly where it's coming from. Somewhere right around tranny pan, oil pan, or the cats.
Sounds like a fan on a loose rusty bolt kind of noise, but it's not the fan. I checked tranny fluid, and it was fine (but I plan on changing it soon. But it couldn't be tranny cause it's while it idles), engine oil was kind of low, topped her off and still the noise.
Perhaps the MAF made the engine run rich and the fuel may have messed up the cats?
Anyone with this problem?
