code 8

Hi,
I had my F150 in for repair for check engine lite. I said that a spark plug had come loose again (it's done it twice in the last 2 years) and was sometimes misfiring but not always. So the repair place said they got a code 8, which means the fuel injector needs to replaced. So they replaced the injector AND the spark plug. Does this sound right? I can't find code 8 in either diagnostic codes or odbII.

All OBD II codes have a letter and 4 digits.
Code "8" by it's self does not mean anything.

Injector failures are extremely rare.

More than likely the mechanic is talking about code P0308 Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected. It can be anything from injector failure to coil or plug.

Oh and ditto on Home skillet. The guy probably made some money off you. It has been my experience that injectors don't intermittent mis-fire, but I wouldn't stake my life on it. Oh, and another cause can be a wire for the guys with 4.2's and 4.6's.

Go to Autozone or Checker and they will pull the code for you.

If it is P0308, cyl. 8 misfire, I would check the coil pack first. I had the same symptoms and it turned out to be a bad cop.

Good Luck replacing it

Welcome to the forums - but why are you pulling up 4 year old threads?

It does show that this person is using the search function - he/she just needs to pay attention to posting dates.
