Question Specific Synthetic Oil Preference?

I am attempting to remedy the cold start "tick" in my 99 5.4. I have read here that synthetic oil such as M1 coupled with a valved oil filter might do the trick..should I shy away from other oils weights etc. I was thinking of using QS 4x4 synthetic and a K&N filter that will keep prime. I just noticed the "tick" this morning, and thanks to this great site, I am not overly worried about it, but I like my truck to run right and sound right. ANy suggestions? Thank you to all in advance?

99 F150 XLT 4x4 65000 Kms
Westin Nerf Bars
Bug Deflector
Ventshade on all windows w/tint
Alpine 7949 HU w/ Alpine Digital Amp
Ford Embossed Duraliner

I love the truck, gotta keep it running well...

I use 5W-30 Mobile 1. It's readily avaialble at Waly-Mart for a good price. Also, the Ford Motorcraft 820S filter is there for under $3. You can get the 5 qt bottles and save more.

When I had my 4Runner I went the Amsoil route for a while, but it's inconvenient. The long term milage works, but it still made me nervous.

My 5.4 started to tick on cold start back in spring, and continued through the summer. Now it does not tick anymore. I don't know why or why not. I have heard that some have had good success stopping the cold start tick with Amsoil, and that's what I run now. The thing is, I've ran it all summer.

The only thing I've done different was to pour in 3oz of Auto-RX, but I doubt that would make a difference with the ticking. Maybe I'll get the ticking back next spring when it warms up???
