Anyone put their engine on a fuel injection cleaning machine?

Anyone take their truck in to have the injectors cleaned on the machine? If so, at what mileage did you do it and did you notice any difference in performance or mileage? Mine has about 75K on it so far and use Seafoam in the tank every 3-5K and it runs fine. Have heard it's good preventative maintenance to put it on the machine to prolong the life of the injectors if anything.

Also, is it this same machine that cleans the entire throttle body or just the injectors?

YES IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. THE EGR PORTS NEED CLEANING TO. THIS IS NOT IN YOUR MAINTANCE MANUAL EITHER. CLEANING THE PORTS ISN'T CHEAP EITHER. MAYBE SOMEONE ON THE BOARD KNOWS HOW TO DO IT AT HOME??? BE CAREFUL NOT TO LOSEN THE HOSE THAT CAUSES THE DRIP ONTO #4 COIL LIKE FORD DID TO MY TRUCK. IF YOUR WARRANTY IS OUT THEY WILL BURN YOU ON THAT TOO. MINE IS A 98 5.4 WITH 53000 HAD IT DO ABOUT 3MONTHS AGO. MILEAGE IS A LITTLE BETTER, PERFORMANCE IS MUCH BETTER.

YOU DONT HAVE TO YELL!!!!!!

Do you think it would help my pinging 98 4.6 to have a EGR cleaning done?
How much would hooking it up to a machine cost?
How much are EGR cleanings?

Green 98,

Take your truck to the dealer and have them clean the upper intake system...costs about $150, but the truck will run like new again. My brother had it done on his 98 4.6 about 9 months ago and he was amazed by the results. The cleaning process gets rid of carbon build-up in the cylinders, which is probably why you're getting pinging.

Polaris...have your mech pull the EGR valve too and check for carbon deposits.

I've got Champion's injector cleaning set. It cleans the injectors under pressure and does a great job but you have to be prepared to change the plugs afterwards. This set up actually has you shut down the fuel pump and the engine runs on the cleaner. It leaves chunky deposits on the plugs. Of course this is exactly what their instructions tells you it will do. This said, I only use this set up when I'm ready to change plugs. Other than that I just use Techron every 3rd tank full. I usually wait until it gets down to a third of a tank and put the Techron in. I've cleaned the IAC, EGR Valve and upper intake elbow and have had no significant deposits. You have to be careful though this stuff would eat your paint in a heart beat.

Area 52, thanks for the heads up. I'll let'em know...

Might as well check all they can since their in there!

They also have the capability to pull the injectors and have them shipped locally to be put on a machine individually, but he said that is VERY expensive due to pure labor costs. The only time they recommend doing that is if your truck doesn't run properly.

Initial outcome...

is good. No real change in seat of the pants power. Definitely has a smooth idle. They also changed the fuel filter. The mechanic also noted it needs a new serp belt, which will be its 3rd. (The truck has 75K on it.)

Will post any mileage differences after a few tankfuls...

Polarisguy...

glad to hear the cleaning helped. Also...go with a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt. It is far superior anything else. They cost about $28+tax at Auto Zone.

Area 52 ???

Not sure if I have the Windsor motor or not, but it is a Canadian made Ford. The Gatorback, Part # 4080990 is $44.99 and the Kelly Springfield, Part # 990K8 is $27.99.

Not sure which brand our local NAPA sells, but it is around $45 also.

Is one that much better than the other?

I have no experience with the Kelley belt, but swear by the Gatorback along with everyone else who has one.

Order the Gatorback from Mike Troyer (www.troyerperformance.com):
