First Oil Change...

Just did my first oil change outside of a service shop on my 02 F-150, was curious if it is normal to hear a few pings when first starting it up after an oil/filter change even after cranking it a few times before starting it...I have heard the pings before in older vehicles and heard it was normal...the pings on the 02 sounded harder and louder than on older vehicles. Any thoughts would be apreciated.

Thanx,

RAZO

Some have had the "marbles in a can" problem but pinging?

What kind of oil did you use?

And what octane gas do you run?

6 qts of Motorcraft 5w-20...you know how the older trucks kind of knocked or pinged until the oli pump kicked in after an oil change...was just wondering..since this is my first new truck, if this knocking is also common in the newer vehicles.

I am using the Motorcraft filter..the 820AS or whatever it is. Another thing...I cranked mine over 2 or 3 times before starting it...maybe I should not be doing this on a newer vehicle? Should I just start it right up..I do the cranking to make sure the oil is somewhat spread through the motor and this has always been a general practice for me.

Also the truck is running fine now and the oil level is at where it is always at.....just the knock noise after starting it after the oil fill.

Thanx for the help so far people.
