Water temp gauge (temp probe installation spot)

Where's the best/easiest place to install the temp probe for a mechanical water temp gauge? I have seen a couple of installations in the heater hose running from the top of the intake to the heater core and have heard that works good.

I also noticed an unused NPT port on the intake right across the front between the thermostat housing and the connection for the heater hose. Anyone used this spot? Is there another?

Cool

HI!... Galaxy : Because the "MECHANICAL" sensor probe is so big it can only be install in certain locations such as the heater hose. It won't fit in the port in the intake manifold. Here's how I did mine.

Hey Neal, what's up? Been a while. I've been computerless up until a couple days ago

Yea, I actually checked yours out already and that's what I was planning on doing, and then I found that unused fitting on the front waterway of the intake and wanted to check and see if anyone had used it?? It looks like the adaptor that comes with the mechanical gauges might work but don't know if the threads are the same or not. I had mine mounted in a very similar location on the Mustang intake. I just wanted something easy because it is going to be temporary. You get good, accurate readings from that location?

Where did you get the adaptors and all to tie it into the heater line like that?

HI!... The readings from the ingoing heater hose line are VERY accurate. Before entering that heater hose the hot coolant is coming directly out of the back of the intake manifold. The long brass probe extension is from AUTO METER. The rest is just a brass "T" and two brass BARB ends from HOME DEPOT.

Just so I'm straight... I noticed the two heater hoses (duu)...one coming off the very front of the intake and one connected on the very back of the engine. My back one is so far under the firewall I can't tell if it goes to the intake or the block. Guess it really doesn't matter.

Just out of curiosity, which way does the water circulate?? Does it go from the intake into the front heater hose to the heater core and then back in the engine through the heater hose connected on the back of the engine or vise-versa???

I know you would want to tap into the hose running from the intake to the heater core to ensure you had the warmest temps but I'm not sure which one that is based on the direction of flow??

You have your's connected in the hose coming off the front of the intake, correct??
