4.6l Iac $123.86????
4.6l Iac $123.86????
I was starting to have the rough idle/no idle problems in my '00 4.6L and did the search to see that it was probably the IAC. I had read other post that people had replaced theirs for around $50 or less.
So I started calling around to different part stores and NOBODY had one (or mentioned that they could order one). As matter of fact one person even said, "It looks like you are taking a trip to Mr. Ford for this one." Is there something special about the IAC for a 4.6L, 5-speed, 4x4? Even the guy at the dealer parts counter was kind of shocked at the $123 price tag on it.
The good news was that I didn't have to pay a "finders fee" or installation fees thanks to this site

Sounds high to me. The IAC valve for my 5.4L was "only" around $70 and even cheaper at fordpartsonline, but didn't have time to order.
Maybe Ford's found another way to screw us because of their shoddy engineering. They must figure that everybody has to replace the malfunctioning part so why not jack up prices? Yeah, one could try cleaning, but that's not a long-term solution.

When I got mine, I called 3 different Ford dealers. The first one, where I bought the truck, didn't know what I was talking about. The other 2 were $72 and $78. I called a couple parts stores and they didn't carry them.
Between now and then try cleaning it. I cleaned mine a few weeks ago and have had no problems with it since.

checked with my local Ford dealership on iac valve price. Over 300 cdn. retail!!! I knew our buck was low but that's rediculous! Parts store retail is 150cdn. Sure glad I'm in the posistion where I don't have to pay full pop.
Sorry I didn't include the update earlier mahoney. Here's the symptoms I was having and the update:
A couple of months ago my truck would occasionally die as I pushed in the clutch while pulling into a parking spot. It only seemed to die at very low speeds and while turning sharply.
About a month ago, I tried starting it up and would die immediately. It wasn't until I had gone about 100yds across the parking lot that it started to idle again.
A couple of weeks ago it was raining and the engine cut off a couple of times on the way home while at stop lights.
Last Thursday when I left work during Hurricane Isabel (rain rain rain) it would not idle at all and ran very rough all the way home.
So last Friday I bought the IAC and put it on in about 5 minutes and the engine hasn't even had a hiccup since.
If you do a search for "rough idle drive" in the Engines forum, you will get a lot of possibilities for the cause of a rough idle. A common one that seems to go un-noticed / untried the longest is some little rubber hose with a bend that connects to the PCV valve.
Hope this helps.
