How to make custom intake

I have 4.2L and my friend made custom intake for his 95 LT1 and said i could do the same. I can't find tubing or brackets without paying big bucks for a kit. I want to it myself for practically cheap cost and it has the same performance as buying expensive kits. Any things better than the intake stock system it has now it has no way to get large amounts of air

From the tech articles link on the list on the right, JMC has a poor man's intake that he built out of pipe, clamps, couplings and a K&N filter. Try a read through that to see if it is what you were looking for.

Also if you take a search for the eBay FIPK, you will find several people that have these, and are happy with the results for a lower cost ( sub 90.00 if memory serves me correctly ).

Word to the wise, cheap does not exactly equal the FIPK's from AF1 or the likes. Size and design of the filter used, I found will make a big delta to the amount of air flow registered at the MAFS.
The eBay one I have not tested, but I know from the K&N FIPK to one that is almost 100% the same as the AF1 there was an airflow difference. Would this be worth the coin, maybe not for you, by what I infer from your post.
