K&N Filter Question
K&N Filter Question
I am thinking about putting a K&N into my new F150. I had one in my old truck (1976 F150 4X4) so i still have all the cleaning stuff.
Lately I have been doing some reading about then and I have heard that it might not be a good idea to put one in a vehicle that you use as a daily driving vehicle. The reason this is, is because in order for the filter to flow more air the pores in the filter have to be bigger. Bigger pores mean more dirt and dust into the engine. So my questions is, is it worth getting the increased perofmance and fuel mileage by letting more dirt get into the engine?
Does anyone have more knowledge about them to say what I read earlier is a bunch of bs?

K&N filters don't rely on the pores to catch the dirt particles. The oil captures them. If you run it without enough oil, then yes it will let more dust through. Keep it properly oiled and you have nothing to worry about.
I recently purchased a 99 XLT 4x4 5.4 and was wondering about the air filter as well. The K&N website states that if you are not going to replace the stock air box as well, you will not really notice the fuel mileage or HP increase. I am going to wait until I can follow the manufacturers specs instead of spending the money hoping for results.
