Question Electric fans... more questions???

Are the Troyer's dual 16" electric fans best on the market, or are they the only one for the F-150? The 1 to 1.5 mpg and slight increase in HP is what really interrests me.

Also, does anyone know if these fans will work with a Kenne Bell or Pro-Charger? I'm considering putting one of these on my truck for the extra pulling power. Thanks.

Flex-A-Lite also makes a kit for the F-150. The FAL270 is a very nice drop in kit that bolts to stock mounting points. Although I prefer their mounting method over the Troyer kit, Mike's kit is cheaper and has a more efficient fan design.

They will work just fine with either of these kits. In fact, because removing the stock fan allows the engine to rev up faster, it will probably make the ATI kit work a little better.

There are also a few who used the electric fans from a MKVIII. The draw back to these is the high current draw. I have a kit from Mike T. It stood up to a lot of abuse and his customer service is top notch.

JDM Engineering makes a good fan kit. It is only a single fan. The fan and the shroud are both ford parts. When I have taken my Expedition into ford they do not even notice that it is not the stock fan. I have had mine installed for over 2 years now with over 70k miles on it with absolutely no problems. These are also being used on several of the Lightnings that are everyday drivers so it would not be a problem if you s/c your truck. Here are a few pics of it. I also recomend you put a cobra r water pump.

Johnny A, did you notice any effects on your cooling system, better, worse, the same? What about fuel mileage and performance? Two of my main concerns or wants is to increase the fuel mileage and pulling power. A little here and there is what makes this fun. Thanks.

I did notice a difference. A little with the MPG but alot with the power. By putting on the electric fan it freed up around 18 hp. And the gas was around 1 -2 miles more. The cooling was better because I also had a 160 thermostat put in. I also put in a super chip with a custom tune. Now there was a big difference. My gas mileage jumped from 12-13 mpg to 19-20mpg on the highway running 80-85 mph. I drive daily in houston stop and go traffic and I get 17 mpg consistantly. The best mileage I have gotten has been 25. But that was running with a tail wind and the AC off. I had my mods put in at 50k and I have over 126k now. If you are wanting more performance I highly recomend the same mods. And it will just plan surprise you with the amount of power you will find. I have figured out the difference in the cost vs mileage since I have to run super unleaded now and it is still cheaper to run with the 93. Hope the info helps.

Johnny A, that sounds great. Have towed anything before and after the mods? I tow my car to track, and would like to see some more power for the hills and such.

Becuase it was something to do with the wireing that caused the fan to fail. I do not know if the failure was due to the way it was installed or not. And I would not want to that to happen to anyones truck. And if you heard about something that happened to someones truck and if you were in my position and did not bother to mention it, well that is just plain f**ked up. I know alot of people use the flex a lite as well as other makes of elec fan with no problems. I have a high mileage vehicle and drive long distances weekly. My setup has worked flawlessly and it is used on alot of the lightnings that people have put well over $10k in there motors. It looks completely stock unless you get right up on it and look hard. And if you really want to know what happened with the flex a lite you can go look for it yourself on one of the other f150 online boards. That is where I found it.

So I do not want to turn this into a flame fest if I wanted to do that I would have gone to the lightning forum. I just wanted to pass on the info I had. Sorry you feel otherwise. Have a great weekend.
