Gold Coolant
Gold Coolant
Just bought an 03 Sport Trac for my wife ( I still have the F150). I was curious to see that Ford now has a new coolant. It's yellow. The owners manual calls it gold. The service manual says change at 5 yrs or 100kmiles. Anyone know if this is the same as Dexcool. I thought that was orange.
Also, funny story. The salesman was doing the walkover with us. Showing us where to check ps and wiper fluid, etc. He says and as I am looking at and noting the Mercon V letering on the tranny dipstick, he says, "you'll notice that there is no transmission dipstick, that's because the system is sealed and needs no service for 100,000 mi". This guy is a good salesman too but obviously not as well informed as he should be.

the gold coolant is totally different than Dex cool. It is not the same type or even the same chemical composition.
DO NOT MIXS THE TWO!
Have already seen the results, it is not compatible chemically, unless you totally drain and flush before replacing.

LAME-O
I don't even remember the last auto salesperson that I encountered that wasn't uninformed at best, mildly retarded at worst. Ford's the worst at the under the hood blabber points. The last time I talked to a Ford salesperson, he pointed out how the Lightning ran everything on one low maintenance belt drive system. My wife had to show him that there were actually two belts since the supercharger used a second one.
