'03 Mountaineer 4.6 Got PROBLEM??
I recently purchased a new '03 Mountaineer with the 4.6 and AWD. When the vehicle was new, the auto tranny shifted very crisp and quick. While the engine didn't feel too bad on power. I then decided to put on a K&N cone filter inplace of the box and cut the "Y" pipe connection and catalytic off. I noticed it has what seemed like 2 resonators and a cat. I then replaced it with a true dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers.
Now here's my problem. When I'm taking off from a stop now, engine seems to really wind out in first gear and doesn't want to shift. And this is with mild excelleration. But it doesn't do it everytime. And after doing these two mods, the engine still doesn't have much on the low end. But the tranny's lack of shifting is really bothering me. Did I open the air filter too much for the MAP sensor? I did these same mods to my '99 F250LD with the 5.4 and it REALLY helped. I even got 2mpg more. But on this mountaineer all it seems like I did was make it louder.
Any help or feedback would be great. It has only got 12,000 miles on it and at this point it's alil disappointing. I look forward for any help!!

Going to a true dual setup will definitely hurt your low-end power, what with the lack of backpressure. As far as the shifting goes, I only have one idea. Did you reset your computer after the mods? Disconnect your battery and turn your headlights on for 10 minutes, then drive around for about half an hour and see what's up. Any other ideas, y'all?
Well I decided yesterday to disconnect the battery cables and see what happens. It's now like a whole other vehicle. The crisp shifting is back along with the excelleration. Even my mileage went up like it should of with my new filter. Thanks for the help Pickup Man!!
