Angry rough idle

I have a 2003 f-150 4x4 supercab auto. trans and a 5.4 engine . the truck only has 25000 kms and the idle is rough . the dealer checked and could not find the problem . ford says this is a normal condition , it's a computer program to meet emmissions . I think that's a lot of bull! Has anybody got any ideas ? The I.A.C is fine

How rough is it? I had an '02 F150 with the 5.4L and it idled rough most of the time. By rough, I mean it did not idle at a steady rpm and had just a little shake to it. It was nothing serious and only fluctuated RPM's a little bit, but I thought these new engines would idle dead smooth. I traded it a couple weeks ago on an '03 Expy with the 5.4L and it maintains a constant RPM at idle. I don't know if this is just normal variability in the manufacturing process or if they have made mechanical/programming changes since the '02.

BTW, it did idle smoothly sometimes. More often than not, it was a little rough, but for some reason would smooth out at times.

rough idle

Thanks for the reply , I know I'm not the only onr with this problem . I've had a 97 and a 2000 with 5.4 engines and had no problems at all . I have been a mechanic for 25yrs and I can't believe that ford would program the PCM like that

Mine is kind of like fx4x42000's old one. It has a little shake to it when the tranny is in park and only occasionally a noticable tachometer variation. I also have an occasional tick too.
