engine cleaning
This is what I do. I drive it to the car wash then I cover the computer and fuse boxes with plastic bags. I lay a bag lengthwise over the top of the of the coil packs on each side. I spray everything with engine degreaser but try not to get degreaser on the serpentine belt or it will dry it out. I also don't spray directly onto the alternator but I don't cover it. You can cover it to be safe. Spray cleaner onto the engine from the wheelwells and under the engine also. Make sure you don't get any degreaser on the fenders. Then I spray the fenders, windshield and grill area with water before spraying the engine down. As soon as I'm done spraying everything clean I remove the bags, close the hood and start the engine. This helps prevent water from seeping into places it shouldn't get. While the engine is running I hose off the rest of the truck making sure to get all overspray of degreaser off the paint. When I get home alot of the engine is dry already from the heat. I then spray the moving parts with silicone or Amsoil MP. I also spray the batt terminals with silicone. I don't use WD-40 because it has alcohol in it. When the lubricant dissipates it leaves the alcohol behind which then draws moisture from the air. Take your time.
