Strange temp problem? (atta3 you out there)

I was searching the archives when I found (atta3 post) from back in June 2001.He was having the same problem I'm experiencing now. (Below is his post.) His post which is pretty close to my problem. I have changed thermostat and coolant flush, fan clutch is good.It only overheats when I run the A/C after about 30 minutes of in town running, turn off A/C turn heater on and it cools back down.If I don't run the A/C it doesn't overheat? I just wanted to know if he ever figured it out? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. 97fone50

"Really Bizare Temp Problem"
"I hope someone out there can HELP! Everyone here is stumped. For the past three days the temps here in Ohio have been in the 90's. I have a 97 V6 F150 that normally runs GREAT. For the past three days the temp guage has been rising up into the red. If I turn on the heater at full blast it goes right down to where it should be. Had the radiator flushed and a new thermostat put in today. Problem occured as soon as I left the garage. Temp will stay normal below 35mph and on level surfaces. If I go up hill, or over 35 mph it begins to rise. If I run heat for 10-15 min. then stop, heat guage will stay down until I go over 55mph or uphill then it will slowly begin to rise to the red again. After dark when its cooler NO PROBLEMS. I checked water levels and added some water but didn't change. There are no coolant leaks or coolant loss at any time."

atta3 only posted 3 times. All in June of 2001.

Wonder if it could be the fan's not kicking on?

Arrow just a thought

My sister's 97?98? Explorer had a similar problem. I can try to confirm this; but I believe it was the mechincal fan. Physically, it was turning / spinning properly, but the fins sometimes 'straighten out' and don't properly pull air.

Hope this gives some insite.
I have my mechanical fan from the Lightning... interested?
Good Luck,
John
