'01 Screw with 5.4 38k miles. When I accelerate I hear what sounds like intake noise or an exhaust leak coming from under the steering wheel behind the firewall. Cruisin down the road I don't notice it just on take off. I have a K&N filter in but the noise was there before that. I am just sick of having the radio up loud so I don't notice it. My dad has an '02 Screw with 5.4 and his does not make the noise. I would attribute the noise to an exhaust leak from the location. Any help would be appreciated.

Look from the engine compartment side, there should be a round rubber plug on the left of the brake booster. A lot of times these would fall out if someone runs an alarm wire through the firewal.

 

I had autostart installed when I bought the truck, so I am sure they ran the wires down through there. I will have to do some checking. Thanks for the advice Home Skillet!!

 

No problem.

The EGR tube runs close to that grommet, so the exhaust type noise radiates right into the passenger compartment.
