Service Engine Light

Does anyone know how to reset the "Service Engine Soon " light on my 2001 F-150 with a 4.6 L? Thanks.

Disconnect your negative battery cable, turn on headlights, wait 30 seconds and reconnect. Your truck might run funny for a little while until the computer re-learns.

Before you reset it do you know WHY it came on in the first place? You can go to Auto Zone and if there are any codes set they can tell you and then I believe they can clear the code as well.

It could be one of literally hundreds of reasons as 01 XLT stated. The lesser of the hundred would be something as crazy as not seating the gas cap firmly enough after a fill-up or bad gas. The EGR valve could also be shot or something could have been disconnected. I would suggest checking the gas cap, making sue that the dipstick is seated properly and then re-set the computer.

If the light comes back on then have the code read by autozone or a Ford dealership. If your truck is still under warranty, take it in and have the repair done free of charge without delay.

If you re-set the computer, make sure to idle the truck for at least 5 minutes without reving the engine. then take her out for a drive on the freeway.

let us know what happens. g. Luck

The only time mine has come on since I bought the truck turned out to be due to a misfire. Dealer corrected it and said there was even a bulletin out on the problem. The light might mean nothing but it might be something major.

Unhappy

Eariler this week my 97 F-150 just got a check engine light and today the truck would not start.

I got in to start it and I noticed that the interior light was not burning and radio presets were reset.

So, I tried to start it and the automatic locks were going off like a machine gun.It did turn over but now the keyless entry system does not work and the HVAC fan works only on high speed. Help!
