Favorite Oil Filter???
Favorite Oil Filter???
What brand do y'all prefer to use and why?
I realize some people will be rabid fans of one brand or another, but there is a big difference in filter design between the major manufacturers.
I'd always just grabbed a Fram until I read some really disturbing stuff about their quality the other day.

I use PureONE by Purolator. They also make MotorCraft Oil Filters for Ford. All the hardware, but the paper media. Its sent to them by a ventor that Ford uses.

Purolator One minimum, usually Mobile One. There was an excellent thread on this website a year or so ago on filters. Thats why I'll probably never buy another Fram. The opinions on this are going to be wide and varied, but I personally don't mind a few extra bucks two or three times a year for what I consider to be quality stuff.

Here's a great thread I just read up on.

Sounds like Purolator and Mobile One are the best "run over to Wal-Mart and grab one" brands.

Oil filters are rated by their "Beta Ratio" in regards to efficiency. While I can post the numbers, they are not really relevant as the test criteria is vague at best. There is no spec on viscosity, temperature, flow rate, pressure, just to name a few. I can tell you that the Purolator and Motorcraft will filter the most and smallest particle size in a single pass. The K&N and Wix are on the other end of the scale filtering the least. So it sounds like the Purolator and Motorcraft are the best-right? Maybe, maybe not. While they filter more and smaller particles, they also flow less oil. The Wix and K&N will flow more oil but filter less. All others are in between. So it's up to you, better filtration or more oil flow.
easy solution..when racing, use a K&N and when cruising around town, use a Motorcraft FL-820S. You won't have any long term damage from either filter, so it's splitting hairs.

) Anyhow, now I have a by-pass system on. If you are really concerned about how clean the oil is staying, take a close look at by-pass filters. My oil stay's very clean now becuase the filter that I have on can keep the oil cleaner than when if comes out of the quart jug from new.
Also, I have a super large FF filter on my truck that hold Almost 2 quarts. So flow is not a problem. It's hard for me to understand why they put such small filters on our trucks?
after reading that i'm soing with the motorcraft from now on and to say my truck has olny 2200 on it but i did chage the oil and i did use a pureone so i'm all good but knowing that the motorcraft is the same and it is less i'm going to go with that one now
