Rough Idle

I have a 97 F150 with 4.6 v8. The idle when cold is fine, once the engine warms up it gets rough. No cel.

Checked the coil packs, found the resistance on the secondary coils is out of spec when they are hot. Checked them this am and they are in spec when cold. Is this likely the problem?

Any opinions or advice appreciated.

Thanks

Hello fieldthis,

I also had a 97 with a 4.6 with the same issue, once the engine warms up it gets rough, it did it since the day I purchased it new. I had it checked at about 30,000 miles no problems, no error codes nothing at 50,000 it needed new plugs and wires and an oxygen sensor but still rough idle. I went back and asked the mechanic at the dealer and he said that for the 4.6 in a 97 truck some roughness was normal. Don't know if that helps.

Hi rkjerue

This problem is more recent, the idle is normally pretty smooth.

Tried new coils last night. The truck has more power than it did before, but the idle is still rough.
