Unhappy Blown spark plug!!!!!

I have a 1997 F-150 SC 4x2 with a 4.6 litre V* and I blew a damn plug. I beleive it was at #1. That was at about 80000 miles. Now I'm at 108000 miles and I now have an upper engine click/tapping sound and I've been told it was a lifter. I need to know what the best remedy might be for me. I heard that there were bolts on the valve lifeters that can back out. Can anyone help me??????

103k miles on my '97 5.4l. So far so good. This is the first I've heard of blown plugs! Now I've heard of failed coil packs as sort of common.

99 F-150 47k spit #2

Ford Dealer offered to replace the head for $1200 and give powertrain warranty to 100k. It doesn't cover blowing plugs on the other side though.

Mine died

99 F150 with 90,000 spit out front one on passengers side not sure which one. I may have a leg to stand on as the dealer just 3 months ago replaced the plugs. I'm hoping I can go after them. Just have to see.

Since I have had a diesel for the last 3.5 years, what are the symptoms of a blown plug on these engines? Also, how the heck do you get to them and what is the torque value supposed to be?

Thanks.

Well, NUTS!!!

I haven't had one, didn't know they were a possible (probable?) problem...until just now. I've got 60k miles on my 99 F-150 4x4 with a 5.4L. Is the way to avoid this to check the torque regularly or is there some other way? I've never had them changed, and not sure I want to tackle it myself. It's for sure I'd never go to a local shop to have it done now...and wonder about how well the FoMoCo service center would do!

Has FoMoCo issued any bulletins, recalls, or anything concerning this?

Would this be covered under the "bumper to bumper" extended warranty?

Thanks for the link, encryption. I can see there's a lot of history on this problem.
