hesitation or 'missing' problem

hey guys... hope someone can help me ... or lead me in a general direction to start looking..
i dont have a great - hightly modified truck... but i still love it
ive got a 98' with the 4.2 that is developing a problem..... it starts at around 50-55mph and from about 60-70mph ONLY under slight acceleration. it seems like it is 'missing' ... like someone is pressing a button and killing the ignition for a split second
i dont believe its a fuel delivery problem because under harder acceleration and cruising it goes away.... only under slight load.
the plugs have been changed with Ford's and the wires have been changed recently too..

appreciate any help
thanks...

i had a 2000 4.2 5 speed that did the same thing. it went to 3 different dealers, replaced computer and many other things. the service guy called me in my mack semi truck and told me it was that i couldn't change gears right and i was luging the engine causing the engine to cut out! i told him what i was driving and how stupid he was and went to another deal and traded for a 2001 4.6 auto and i'm fighting them with the ticking noise that they can't find but they can hear it so they can't fix it!!! ford quality sux!!!!!!!! sorry for the rant, flash backs..............

so im guessing its probably a fuel filter or TPS.....
anyone know if you need any special tools to change the filter? i've read that its located inside the frame on the drivers side just behind the door .... is this correct? ill check in the morning and maybe start there...

thanks again

Yes you do need a fuel line disconnect tool. about $6 at parts store. It's a relatively easy job.
