Thoughts on Nissan full size Titan . . .
It is what it is
I don't care for the look of the Titan entirely (mainly the front) but the new F-150 is kinda ugly too. I'm sure the quality will be like most jap stuff - pretty good - better than the American quality I hate to have to say. The Truck Trend mag I was flipping thru said the numbers aren't released yet but they guess the Titan has 350 hp and 380 ft lbs. They also said it feels at least as powerful as the dodge hemi. Plus the tranny is smooth and crisp. Also comes with optional 285/70/17 tires. And an optional factory spray in bed liner. I hate to admit it but Nissan is talking my language. I'm an old guy and have had many vehicles over the years but the quality of my '03 F-150 leaves something to be desired. It's just OK barely. My '97 was better/tighter not counting the numerous recall hassles; but hey they fixed it all for free. I've had several new & used jap vehicles and if anything they were reliable and put together well. Good paint too. One downside to the Titan is compared to the American trucks is there will be hardly any aftermarket stuff for it. By my way of thinking it's always good to purchase American products and I do so whenever I can (usually pay more too but it's OK) but on these big ticket items the quality is starting to matter again to me.
I have been religiously following all of the upcoming 2004 pickups since earlier this year since I was looking to replace the Ford F-150 that I have. I won't begin to degrade the reliability or the strength of Nissan's vehicles, but this truck doesn't have the strong appeal of the new design on the Ford. The Nissan looks like a Hot Wheels version of the new '04 F-150 in my opinion and while I don't doubt it is a fine pickup, I am going to have to keep my money in the good ole US of A and buy the '04 F-150 SCrew Lariat 4x4!
Personally I am glad to see the Japanese get into the truck and large SUV market. The competition will only help keep quality up, prices down and increase the innovation of new features. As for quality, I believe the Japanese are a notch ahead of American car companies, but I don't think they are as far ahead as most people believe. I have owned my share of Fords and have had very little trouble with them. They compare extremely favorably to friends I know with Japanese cars.
I will stay with Ford, Chevy or Dodge. Most likely Ford or Dodge next time around, I have had extremely good luck with all 3 brands, and I am a "buy American" kind of guy. I sold my last truck ('91 Z/71 Chev) with 193K miles, with 1 starter and normal maint. parts and never a breakdown. My friend with a Tundra had a ring gear failure at 70K which cost him nearly $1500. to repair (price out a ring gear set for this truck), the Jap trucks can break too, and will most likely cost more if it happens.
I'm not impressed. Nissan trucks have always seemed very cheaply made, and this one appears to be no exception. The interior looks like it was made by Wal-Mart... I don't know where the notion of Japanese cars being so superior in quality to American cars came from. I've seen plenty of broken and cheaply made Hondas and Toyotas. Not saying they're all bad cars/trucks, but to me Japanese cars/trucks always seem cheaply made, and uncomfortable for tall people...

I've only seen pictures of the interior, so I can't really judge on it until I drive it.

Not only is she short and Asian, but she drives a Honda...
I'm short, but I'll stick with the leader in trucks. There's a reason that Ford is the best selling for so long, and when I spend that amount of money, it goes for the best I can find, and that's Ford, not some `other` company that tries to copy what Ford does. Three deciding factors.
1)Ford is the industry leader, hands-down.
2)The other companies want to be or beat Ford.
3)They aren't and they haven't.

I'm a Ford man, but it is true that Jap cars are higher quality at least in the manufacturing process and the parts they build their vehicles with. Jap parts are built to stricter quailty tolerances than American cars.
