A Headgasket Leak Consensus

Hi-

With this thread I am trying to see how prevalent head gasket leaks are for our Triton engines. I am now having to deal with this unfortunate ailment, myself. I slid underneath my father's 97 lariat 4.6L and I see some seepage, too. He, of course has very close to 200,000 miles on his truck, so the sight isn't tha suprising.

If you would please state the:

1) year of your truck and engine size (what assembly plant, too)

and

2) milage of the leak

I've heard of the 5.4L's blowing headgaskets, but I was suprised to see my 01, with not even 18,500 miles on the odometer, having this problem.

Thanks for your time!

99, 4.6 just under 37,000 miles & it went bad.
noticed some real light spotting in my driveway. went on vacation (drove) came back and i was over the 36,000 mile warranty.

dealer replaced the gasket, passenger side was leaking.

if i remember correctly i have the windsor motor. checked it out at the time. (aint doin it now, its sunday morning, just sippin coffee and i'm not really awake yet).

could all be in my head, but the truck has never been as strong as it was originally. i cant take hills in the same gear that i used to be able too (thats a fact). if possible it seems that i have lost torque when the did the fix.

havent seen any spotting since. i now have a 100,000 mile warranty so i am not overly concerned at the moment. i have put about 25,000 more miles on the truck since the fix.

99 Expy 5.4 started leaking right side @ 23,000 miles. Once the dealer started working on it they discovered that the left side was leaking in to the engine valley. Replaced both head gaskets with the 'new revised four layer' gaskets, has been ok since.
