Replace the fuel line or not?
After 70K on my truck I decided to change the fuel filter for the first time. I cut the fuel pump off to relieve the pressure and remove the rear line from the fuel filter with no problem. After several tries with the special tool for removing the filter and even using some WD-40 to soak the fittings I was about to give up when this so called shade tree mechanic I know was confident he could remove the filter. Well, not only did he not remove the filter by cut the flexible portion of the line leading to the filter. Too make a long short, he ended up cutting the flexible portion of the line off and replacing it with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick rubber hose and clamped it down. It seems to be holding for now, but will I have to eventually or so I do it now, replace the entire fuel line leading to the engine? Will clamps and a rubber line hold with the PSI from these engines?
Get high pressure hose. It is made to withstand the pressure. The hose could burst if is it is not a high pressure hose. The 15lbs hose that auto part stores sell will not hold up to the pressure.
