Anything to worry about?

Last night I started my truck after filling it with gas. I always write my mileage info in my Pocket PC but last night just as I was going to enter the trip and odometer info, it went black.

I shut off the truck and restarted it then slapped the dash nothing helped, 30 seconds later it turned back on and stayed on.

Does anyone know what this was all about and if it's anything to worry about? I have also had the wipers take a single pass on their own about once a week. Wierd stuff!

This is a 2000 F-150 with the 5.4 and 68,000mi. This is one of my favorite vehicles I have ever owned (only tied with our Accord) and I want to make sure I'm not going to have a problem with it.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Dreamin,

I also had the same intermittent windshield wiper single pass. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the turn signal/windershield control unit. That corrected the problem.

Lightbulb Problems

The wiper problem is a (Ford) known bad switch. I had to have the one on my 99 replaced. The display going black happened once on my 2002 about 6 months ago. I asked the dealer about this -- they did not have a clue. Mine was out for 20-30 seconds -- then lit back up, and never has done it again.
If you find anything about the blackout, let me know as I still have almost 2 years of warranty left. Thanks!!

I may have to ask FORD about it but I doubt they will do anything since I'm way out of Warrenty. 68,000mi and still running strong.

If I hear anything I'll post here. I'm going to be very busy for the next couple months so it will not be any time soon unless it starts doing it more often.

On the wipers I think there was a recall. I had that problem on my 99 Ranger and I think I remember getting a recall notice for it.
I never took it in cause I traded it for my 98 150 before it ever really bugged me...it did really freak me out a couple of times till I was sure what I was seeing

Dreaming,

The Odometer leds going out has been talked about but unfortunatly the only known cure is to replace the cluster. The wiper thing has plagued Ford vehicles for some time now. Again the most common cure is to replace the multi-function switch.
