HELP coil pack specs
HELP coil pack specs
I have a 97 4.6 with 95k mi.It has a miss around 3k rpm,replaced fuel filter no help.I just pulled coil packs to check and found this Primary specs are 0.3 to 1.0 ohms,I got .9 ohm,OK I guess.
Secondary specs are 6.5k to 11.5k ohm, I got 13.4 to 13.8 on all adjacent cyl.A little high,This was done with packs removed and on bench.
Does anyone know if this would cause the problem? I am running motorcraft dbl plat. about 1 yr old and MSD 8.5 super-conductor wires also 1 yr old Idle is very smooth at 500rpm in drive.
Thank You for any help,
Randy

Assuming you have two coil packs, one on the front of each head, I think you have the wrong specs. Out of a chiltons online manual it says "Resistance should be 12.8-13.1 kilohms. If secondary resistance is not within specification, replace the coil pack."
Don't know if that helps. Still sounds like you are out of spec, but not as much.
Good luck

I found the spec's that you found, but there in a section that refers to a 4.6 with a Tfi-iv distributor system. If yours is like mine it doesn't have a distributor. Look in your book for a section on distributorless ignition system, thats where I found the specs that I gave to you.
