Plugs & Oil
Well, based on previous advice, I went to Mobil 1 Super Syn 5W-30. The truck likes it. Acceleration feels good (for the beheamouth it is), and mileage is ever so slightly better than even with the 5W-20 I had in it.
First off your truck doesn't have plug wires.
Second the manual calls for 5k oil changes in Normal only driving conditions. It is almost impossible to stay withing the "normal driving conditions" parameters so always stick with the severe duty schedule or what ever makes you personaly comfortable.
Third I will NOT get in to the very old fasioned debate over 10w-30 versus a 5w-30!!! What a freakin mess that would be.
I will say this though, as it seems to go here on this board (I have been here for a few years) that you use what oil YOU feel comfortable with and not what the manufacturer reccomends and you will be fine and your engine will last forever and you will never have a problem with your warranty. There is no flames intended, I am just trying to save you some time and sum up every discussion/argument over oil I have seen here in the last 2+ years!!
have fun and enjoy your truck!

I agree! It becomes a moral war when we talk about oil viscocity.
Use what you feel comfortable using. If you decide to go with a multigrade 30 weight oil, you'll be fine. I would assume that you would be okay with 5W20, too. I just have never tried the stuff. My mustang is going in for its 1000 mile oil and manual tranny change Friday. Guess what's going in the engine...Mobil 1 5W-30. I like the extra protection.
PS To all: anyone that says that Ford Modular clearances are too tight for a 30 weight oil, your smoking some fine dust! Tell me what clearances changed from one year to the next. Even though they measure the clearances by .0001 of an inch.
