Unhappy Truck won't start!

I have already posted this here but I didn't get any replies and since the problem could be engine related I'll post here too.

I was driving around fine yesterday afternoon and nothing out of ordinary was happening. Came home and after a couple hours I was about to head out for dinner and the truck wouldn't start. I'm placing this in Electrical Systems because I have a suspicion that this is somehow due to the Theft security. But hey it could be engine as well for all I know at this point.

What happens is: I tap the unlock button on the key fob and go to start the truck. There are the sounds of any accessories starting up and a THUNK - not an engine thunk though. I've checked to make sure the battery cables are on tight and there doesn't appear to be anything disconnected under the hood. Any ideas?

99 XLT with the 4.6 V8, Auto, RWD. 130,000km.

alarm/ key

hey i have a 99 f150 4x4 with a delicate alarm w/ remote start and sometimes if i set off the alarm then disarm it the key wont start it because it doesnt recognize the chip inside the key itself.
Try to reset your alarm system w/ the reset button or taking off cables and reseting the whole vehicle system. Then if that dont work you might wanna try to talk to ford and see what they say your key may be screwed up.
I hope im some help

The "thunk" you are hearing is probally the starter relay engaging. Try this first, clean & make sure both terminals at the starter are clean & tight. If that don't seem to help, then LIGHTLY tap on the starter with a hammer while you have someone try to start the engine----if it starts, then the starter is going bad. Hopes this helps!
