Question Restore?

I have a '97 4X4 truck with 128,000 miles. The truck runs fine, no smoke, has power, and runs smooth with no shimmies or anything. I was just wondering if anyone has used an oil additive called Restore. It is supposed to restore compression, etc. www.restoreusa.com

Any input would be great, truck has lots of miles, but may need some extra oopph.

Hi.
I've seen that product around at Kragen. I am not a proponent of oil additives, because some actually cause more problems than help them. If your not smoking (burning oil), loosing compression, or anything else, why do it? In addition to my 01, we have a 97 Lariat with over 177,000 mi. on the 4.6L. We haven't used any type of oil additive for teh life of teh vehicle. The most important thing is to change the oil regularly. I'd stay away from all teh oil additives.

I'm using Restore in my '77 Toyota Land Cruiser. Why? because it smokes and yes it does cure that somewhat. It's just a real thick oil that seals the rings better I believe. However if your running fine, don't bother.
There are no need for additives unless your engine is not well. The company's have done a great job in selling all this snake oils to us making us believe our cars will run forever with them! Remeber the Viper running the racetrack in AZ heat with no oil thanks to Prolong? Right! I've heard that stuff is nothing more than bleach! But they've fooled me too!

If your truck is running fine don't add it. I tried an oil additive in a Honda that I had that was running fine and after that it started burning oil like no tomorrow.

I use Restore in my old Buick Century. It likes it. I put a can in every oil change. It seems to hold down the oil burning and gives better power.

Like most additives that is a harsh cleaner that may not do much more good than harm. If you want to clean out some of the varnish and sludge there is a product called Auto-RX that is posting some good results on oil analysis. Read some of the comments from oil gurus here:

It's a natural product that you run for the last 500 mile before an oil change. It slowly disolves sludge and varnish, which is what you are looking to do.

Thanks! I guess I will leave well enough alone. There is no real problems with the truck, the engine is strong, I just thought with all the mileage this may have helped.

I won't add anything.

Just one thing I do every 5,000 mi. is throw in a bottle of Red Line SI-1 Fuel system cleaner in the gas tank. Keeps everything clean and lubricated.
