Hesitation

I am a new poster so sorry if I make a mistake.
I have a severe hesitation that only happens on occasion. I have rebuilt the carb, and all seems ok and have advanced the time as much as I can and not cause a starting problem. Any ideas?

OOPS: I have a 1978 F150 351 Modified with 10k on the rebuild.

When you rebuilt the engine, did you replace all the sparkplug wires? If so, did you use a good brand? Check and make sure that your wires aren't grounding to the block (from bad wires) or perhaps you need to reset the gap on your plugs? Perhaps your secondaries aren't opening all the way at WOT?

On a side note, where are you at in East TN? I live in Johnson City when I'm out of school.

Thanks for the responce. Flea what are secondaries? It has a two barrel carb, and I did not put in new wires. It ran very good until I had the carb rebuilt. The pump is working properly but it will hesitate from a stop or when trying to pass, but not every time.
I live in Powell TN on 25W northwest of Knoxville.

You might have them to take another look at the carb. you had rebuilt. They may have the float level set wrong(too low) or the power valve might be the wrong one. Also, you can change the pump stroke on the motorcraft 2BBL.carb., there are 4 holes on the throttle lever where the pump linkage connects----the top hole giving the longest stroke(more fuel). Make sure the vaccumn hoses are connected in the right places on the carb or the dist. vaccumn advance might not work properly. this can cause a hesitation as well. Hope this helps.

Tailgator covered all the info on the carb; I mistakenly thought you had a 4 bbl. on that 351.

I'd check all your wires and make sure that none of them are worn out; it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and change plugs, too while your at it!

Thanks All.
The plugs are new but the wires are OEM so that will be the next thing to try.
