Changed air filter = Service Engine light?
Changed air filter = Service Engine light?
Truck just turned 46k miles, I changed the air filter last night (darn thing must have been the original), and this morning the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I disconected the sensor that goes on top of the air tube between the filter housing and the TB, and forgot to replace it until this morning (after the light kicked on). If the code kicked on because I forgot to replace the sensor right away, would the Check Engine light automatically kick off, or do I need to reset the computer to reset the light? It's a '00 F150 with the 5.4 Triton. Thanks in advance guys.

As long as you have isolated the cause of the indicator light, just re-set the computer by:
1) disconnect the Negative batt. terminal
2) cover so that the connections do not touch
3) turn on the lights for 10 minutes
4) turn off the lights and re-connect bat. terminal
5) turn on engine and let idle for 5-10 minutes during which time the computer will send several surges through the rpm range to re-learn the configuration. The light should be off at this point.
If you already know how to do this, go to it!
