4.6L Stroker

Since the 5.4 and the 4.6 both have the same diameter pistons, is the 5.4 just a stroked 4.6? I figured with all the hoopla over the "mod motors" the 5.4 is just a stroked 4.6 with different heads, etc. With that in mind, does anyone make a stroker kit for the 4.6? Or owuld one be able to change the crank, rods, heads, etc by just putting in the 5.4 parts? Would the computer and wiring harness need to be replaced? Would you need a custom burn on a chip, or would a programmer that works on 5.4s work also?

Ok, enough questions.

In a nut shell. The 4.6 and 5.4 use different blocks. The 5.4 being the taller one. Basically anything that has to do with increased deck hight can not be shared. They use different intake manifolds, front covers and crankshafts. There are kits available to stroke the 4.6 to about 4.9L or 300 cu in.

Thanks JMC.

By the way, what happened to the cool mud-spray pic you used to have under your name?

If you are going to spent the $$$ that these places are asking for you might as well get a 5.4 and start from there.

tog,

I had hedman headers but I have switched to JBA. The JBAs were Neal the HP freak's old ones. He ported them and gasket matched them. He is using long tube headers now. Headers should get you about 10-12 Hp on the V8s.

I service my vehicle so I could not recommend anyone.
