My '03 Ticks

I just noticed last night when standing by my truck while it was running and in park, that it makes a "tick" noise. It seems to be coming from the passenger side and under the truck.

It was not a constant tick either, it would tick a few times and then pause for a second and start up again, also the tick would vary in loudness too.

Does this sound like it might just be an exhaust leak? When I opened the hood, I really could not hear it, and it also seemed to be louder if I stood back from the truck about 10 feet or so.

If you take it in, they'll probably just tell you it's "normal", but since we can't hear what your particular "tick" sounds like, it could be just the fuel injectors and/or the overhead cam and in that case it is "normal"......

If it only does it when cold and stops when it warms up, then it something else.

Take it in anyway, at least that way you have record that you took it in and all.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I'm planning on taking it in, just seeing if anyone else has had a similiar problem. I'm almost sure it is something like the exhaust. It is there when the truck is warm, not just after startup.

Maybe you're hearing the cats. They tick, don't they?
