Hey Richard...
That is a good website with a lot of helpful info. I've always tended to stay away from oil additives, though. Somehow changing the oil chemistry doesn't sit easy with me. So, I'll stick with my Red Line plain as she comes.

PS I'm finally going with the JBA headers. This Friday I'm ordering them with Stage 8 bolts from Mike T. !!!! Thanks for your suggestions earlier!

There is a wealth of info at that site but the guys over there are very biased toward synthetics. Why, becuase they sell them. If you can read past the opinions and look at the facts you can learn a lot.

Thumbs up

True, but it is the best place to find those facts. Here is a link I found there. It has a live test of synthetic oils driven as far as they will go, analysing it every 1000 miles. He is currently testing Mobile 1 and has plans of testing AMSOIL, Redline, and Royal Purple. The oil is currently at 7,000 miles and analysis is still good,,, well,,, at least in his opinion.

A little less factual, but quite interesting link to pictures of different oil filters cut open.

Since you brought up additives...
Check out the write up he did on the Lucas oil additives and how it turned the oil to foam!

I disagree. You'll find that quite of few of the people run dino oils. They have also all agreed that a "quality" dino oil & regular drain intervals with an occational AutoRX treatment will be just as good. The people on www.bobistheoilguy.com are very knowlegdable on oils, including dino, blends, and synthetics. You'll find that the founder of the site, Bob, is an employee of Shaeffers. They only sell dino & blends, no true synthetics.

People there are very biased towards oil analysis & all think you should have an occational analysis done just to catch any problems before they become bigger.

I would say that the most popular oils on that site seem to be Pennzoil & Castrol GTX. Niether of these are synthetic.

I almost forgot, they almost all agree you shouldn't use an orange oil filter

My take on the three favorite dino oils over there is Chevron Supreme ( a steal at about a $1 a quart), Penzoil, and Castrol GTX. Lots of folks using those oils over there.

As far as pusjing synthetics goes, I think the reason you see some push is just in the results. Many of them produce great wear numbers, some don't. Nobody over there is real pushy by any means, even the reps from the different oil brands. Believe it or not, that even includes the two amsoil reps over there.

Nobody is afraid to call a spade a spade over there, which makes from some good reading. I know its opened my eyes (and I still use dino oil)!

I think I would have gone with Chevron Supreme, Castrol GTX and Mobil 1. Maybe I just don't tend to read the Penziol threads.
