Misfire Question
OK.. I have a 98 with the 5.4. I had the #4 coil replaced approx 1 month ago.. This mis is not as bad as the last one so I thought maybe tune up W/plugs and plug boots,, this didnt fix it, but it did give me more power.. at idle i can feel a slight mis, when going around 40-50 it misses pretty good, can feel the truck jerk a bit.. can the dealer hook it up to a computer and see where the mis is coming from, i have not had the check engine light come on as of yet.. any ideas.. thanks, Fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve have all been changed along with a few cans of injector cleaner. dusty..
The problem with the #4 coil pack resides directly above it. The heater hose above it has a tendancy to leak directly on top of it and short it out. Get a $1.00 hose clap (screw type) from Autozone, clamp that sucker down, and forget about it.

OK.. just to fill ya'll in.. I took it into the dealer.. they ran their tests and found no problems.. the mechanic took it on a 25 mile run,, still no problems found.. they told me it is normal for this engine to have a slight shake to it... .hmm.. ive driven other 5.4's and never felt it.. oh well.. keep drivin until I throw a code I guess... btw... i have looked at the #4coil area and it looks like the dealer has already put the hose clamp on the hose, thanks for the info. Dusty
There are some dealers who couldn't find their own hand in front of their face... not saying that it's with yours, but I'd check the top of the coil pack for a green residue. After my truck had the same problem, I did everything myself, and I haven't had a problem since. Because I changed the plugs before the problem initially rose, I'm going to have to replace the #4 plug just for the sake of keeping it new.
Check for green residue on top. If it's there, or worse, water is, there's your problem.
