Do not mount it behind the wheels. If your tire throwa a stone just the right way it will puncture the oil filter and you will loose pressure and cause damage to the engine. If you play off road with the filter under the door you greatly increase the risk of damage. The OEM location for a remote is in front of the driverside wheel on the outside of the frame.

has anyone been successful installing the AMSOIL Dual filter on the outside frame left front? Do you need a special bracket? It looks like there is enough room for a remote filter, but not for a dual setup.

I am not sure if anyone has installed one. I cannot remember the clearance in the front so I would have too look and check it out. Too dark now to look ,so I will have a peek tomorrow.

I am planning on installing a single remote on my '97 reg cab. I think I'll get it from Summit or a similar vendor and plan on installing it in the same place as my buddys "02 supercab which is on the outside frame rail in front of the body bracket. He's had no trouble with it. I wish someone who has done it would post to the list so I could find out if he had troubles with install etc. One issue that I haven't reconciled yet is the fact that universal kits come with "installation bushings"---I think the threads on the oil filters on our trucks are 3/4-16--none of the bushings are this size in the kits--so what the ??? Who knows about this?? Thanks in advance.

There is definately no room to mount it in front of the wheel. The mount is 5" x 9" x 3¼" and Amsol doesn't recommend mounting it horizontal because of air pockets. The shortest bypass filter for it is 5¾ so it will be at least 9" tall. The frame is 8" under the door so it will hang past the frame under the door. Your shield will have to stick past that. There is also a lip on the body that hangs past the frame so it would have to be mounted even lower. I would not mount it there because I go off road a lot. Anything sticking out is asking to be ripped off or bashed. One last consideration if you mount it there is where to route the oil lines. Not an easy onr to figure out. If I had to mount it I would go horizontal regardless of What the Amsoil tech told me.

If you ever get into a situation where you drag your frame you risk damage to the filter. Going off road, and I don't mean dirt roads, you risk hitting it. If you feel that it is safe where it is then by all means put it there. I do not want to discourage you from using it but please consider the risk.

I don't know about the dual remote filter. There is definately not room to put a dual filter where I have mine but would have to agree with everyone that behind the wheel is not a good place. This is about the most ideal place to put it...Safe, easy to get to, looks great, etc. Can't go wrong. More pictures in the gallery...
