Exclamation engine swap

Ive got a 4.2 V6 right now in my truck and when im dont paying it off, im want to swap the engine out for a 5.4 V8. My question is...will it fit if i swap my engine for a 5.4L, is the engine bay the same size? And i also wanted to know roughly about how much it would cost just for the price of the engine. Thanks

I have looked into swapping out my 4.2L as well. I called around to local junkyards looking for motors and to see if this swap was even possible. In order to to swap out the motors, you have to switch out the entire electronics system as well. You also have to make sure that your tranny now is the same as the tranny in the truck you get the new motor from. As far as prices go, in my truck I plan on doing a tranny swap as well (from a stick to an auto), one local shop quoted me $3500 for a motor with 25,000 miles, a tranny, and an entire electronics system. The expensive part for you will be install unless you plan on doing it yourself. Hope I helped. By the way, how many miles ae on your tuck? I'm having hell of a time finding a 4.2L motor.

yea, it can be done. Just need some new mounts I'm guessing. A budy of mine made the ultimate swap. He pulled the 100k mile 5.4 from my old baby( he bought it from me) and found a totaled 2001 lightning with less than 10,000 miles on it!!! He got the motor and trans from the junk yard for like 5k!!! Lucky bastard!!! Now every time I get a ride in my old baby I cry like a little girl!!! LOL

Careful, there's a lot more that should be swapped in addition to just motor mounts, wiring, transmission, etc. as mentioned by the other fine folks here. I think you'll find that the radiator, rear end, transmission cooler, front brakes, torsion bars, etc. are all different too. Yes, the motor will drop right in there, but it's all of the other stuff that will drive you wild. For instance, your 8.8" rear end won't last long with a 5.4 in front of it. You'll need the 9.75". Then of course you'll probably want to be able to stop, so the brakes need swapping out all the way around. I wouldn't recommend it.

In all honesty, by the time you add it all up, it's going to get pretty expensive pretty quickly by the time you get the 5.4, the tranny, the 9.75" rearend, etc., not to mention all the small stuff you will need to make it work. I'd recommend either working with what you've got, or selling it and just putting your money torwards a new(er) truck with a 5.4. In the end you will have a truck with a lot higher resale value then investing thousands into what you have. (The 4.6 would have only cost you $500 more then the V6 if had decided on a V8 when it was new.) IMHO, that was the best $500 option available!
