FIPK problems

Have you guys ever had any problems with your rig runnin, idling when it's cold out? One of my buddies knows some guys who have these setups, and their rides won't idle for ***** when its cold out. I'd sure hate to have to sit in my ride and baby sit it while it warmed up in the morning. thanks!

FIPK problems

I've had the K&N FIPK Gen 2 installed for 5 months in So. Cal.
Engine breathes much better. No dyno data to back up my SOMP. Occasionally, on start up, the idle surges but never stalls.
I've retightened all the vac. lines and it has not re-occurred.

I run an open element and the last few weeks here in Detroit the temps have been in the teens and twenties. No idling problems.

When I get in and start it, it is in the 900 rpm range ( cannot recall if it is more or less from that ), and at after I start driving it is at ~ 600 rpm in gear. Also in the teens this weekend and this week. Truck sat outside yesterday at the hockey game for 5 hours in 16* weather, no problems at idle.

Got a Franken FIPK of a K&N T/B elbow and a 12" pleated end filter on an Accufab MAFS adapter plate on the end of it right now.
xhst is a true dual Bassani kit with a X pipe.

Don't listen to the 2nd hand info, and it maybe that these guys that are having problems, have them on a Chevy

I've had my AirRaid for 2 years and it NEVER causes any problems. I love it, best mod. I've ever made. I hear of people having problems but I think that most of those are from improper installation or over oiling of the filter element, which clogs up the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF).

If your truck idles fine now it will when you properly install your FIPK.

Hey there...

No matter which you buy (in the end they're all good for about 5 real HP, at maximum RPM), you will see vastly improved throttle response, and I personally feel a BETTER idle. Hey- engines love cold air- the colder the better, as long as everything else is working properly. Unless you're talking about -60F and congealed gas and all that stuff, I wouldn't worry about the cold.

As far as brand, K+N is great, but no heat shield. Air Force one is great, with the best numbers, but again, no heat shield. Check out the Volant Cold Air Intake at Truckperfomance.com- I love mine, and NO THROTTLE LOSS IN HOT WEATHER!

Oh- yer idle may be jacked up if you don't hook up all the hoses right...

According to K&N as well as Airaid, there is no need for a heatshield with these engines, for the temp in the engine compartment is within a few degrees of the outside ambient temp. The only fluctuations you may see is if the truck is idling for long periods of time. As soon as you move the compartment cools down.

get whatever you want and your idle will be just fine as long as you do a proper installation and don't get anything on the maf.

I personally chose the Volant because it is enclosed and I have a black on black on black truck here in very hot hummid Maryland. I have had it on for almost 2 yrs now and it has never missed a beat!

get a fipk and enjoy!

Had a K&N FIPK on my truck for about two years now . . . no problems hot or cold . . . and the sound at WOT is great!

Go with the flow (pun intended) and get yourself one . . . !
