Hypertech programmer?@
Im looking at buying a Hypertech programmer for my 2001 5.4L supercab. Has nybody else used it?1 what perks come out of buying one?! and is it really worth th $300 or more dollars that they ask? ive heard that it can recalibrate for larger tires, and can either increase your fuel economy or add up to 15HP and 150LB/ FT of torque. Can you help me?
SWAMPR,
For a few more dollars go with the Micro Tuner from Superchips.
This has tunes for the code specific to the PCM version in the truck, and it can act as a ODB II scanner after the tune.
It also allows for tire size change, as well as you can select from the stock tune defaults what you want the truck to do ( shift firmness, shift points, etc ).
I was looking at a few different options myself, last summer a few had used the Hypertech and did not care for it, so I wrote that one off.
I look at the Diablo and found it was monsty a L thing, if you look hard enough you can find a tuner to get one for a N/A F-150, but I don't know about the quality of the tune for the N/As.
I myself did not need the ODB II scaner ( got a Actron and AutoTap ) but I did not want to jack up the install by not getting all the coating off the J3 connector, so I stayed away from the chip itself, and got the micro tuner.
One thing to keep in mind is if you are going to do mods like headers, MAFS and Fuel Rail upgrades or nitrous, then you need a chip, so the mods can be burned into the chip, the microtuner, and the Hypertech do not offer this option.
Just a few things I found out last year when I was researching this stuff.
