Question Amsoil users

Where to you buy your oil, and are using the Series 7500 or the one that is supposed to be good for 25K.

Any info is appreciated.

To decide which to use you have to decide on what you need/want.

If you have to have an API Certified oil go with the XL 7500. If you are going to change your oil at intervals of less than 7500 or 6 months. Go with the XL 7500.

If the API is not important, go with the Series 2000 0w30.
If you want the best oil out there go with the Series 2000 0w30.
If you want to extend your drain intervals to 1 year or 35,000 miles--go with the Series 2000 0w30.

Now the 25,000 stuff, is also good, and in some applications I would also recommend it, but that is on a case by case.

I personally use the Series 2000 0w30 along with a by-pass filteration system. I have not changed my oil since August of 2001.

I use the Series 2000 0w-30. I change the filter every 6 months and the oil 1x per year.

msparks,

Have you done an oil analysis on this oil (the oil you have in your truck now)? I'm an amsoil user too, but I have not seen, heard, or read any good analysis past 10K miles. I guess I need to do an analysis for my own info. My own analysis raises another question. Which lab do I use to get an accurate report? It seem's Blackstone returns (in a couple of the cases I read) better reports than they should.

On the bobistheoilguy site there isn't that many good things said about extended drain intervals (25-35K miles). I have been wanting to go with the extended drain, but I just don't know for sure.

What's your point of view on this?

You can buy it directly from Amsoil.

HarleyD1,

notice that msparks is using a by-pass fiiltration system, that's why his drain interval is that long. It doesn't compare the same because the by-pass system keeps the oil continuously clean, and you throw away the dirty filter along with three quarts of oil a year. So, with this system you change three quarts instead of 6 quarts.

What I've found with the oil analysis is it works best sticking with one lab. Results between labs seem to be up and down, but if the same lab is used, it tends to eliminate that problem. I use Blackstone (very good service!) and Holt for my samples, and they have been very similar in results.

Actually even without the by-pass system you can go once a year without a change. Only thing you have to do is change out the full flow at 6 months.

Before I went with the by-pass, I had over 15,000 miles and 18 months before I changed it. I did put fresh oil in when I installed the by-pass.

msparks,

Have you done an oil analysis to check the TBN content and chemical contamination. 17 months is a long time, about 20Kmiles? I think alot of folks would like to see the results.

greencrew,

Filtering out the solids isn't the only thing that makes the oil last for extended drain intervals. You can't foreget about chemical contamination, ie, antifreeze, silicon, fuel.......... This stuff breaks down the additive package in the oil.
