Unhappy Pulling out 97' 5.4 NEED HELP

I have a 5.4 in my 97' 3/4 ton. A rod bearing went out at 115 K in my truck I decided to overhaul the engine can't seem to get the engine to detach from the tranny. Everything has been disconnected. I am trying to lfit the motor out with a engine hoist and a engine leveler from the screw holes where the intake was. I put an upward force on the engine and the tranny is pulling up with it. Is there any special trick or something i should check or is it easier to pull the engine attached to the tranny?

I am assuming that if you have an Auto tranny you unbolted the torque converter from the flex plate.

Lift the engine only enough to clear the mounts and slide the engine forward to clear the dowel pins. You may need to do some gentle prying with a large screwdriver at the engine/belhousing.

If your truck has a manual then you will need to slide it forward about a mile and a half to clear the clutch.

ALWAYS SUPPORT THE TRANNY WITH A JACK before removing the engine and you may need to jack it up a smidge.

Personally, I prefer to remove the engine with the tranny installed due to the fact that I have a terrible time lining up the Clutch to input shaft or converter studs to flex-plate when dropping the engine back in.

Hope this helps. This is a no brainer but many guys try to do this stuff without help. The help I am speaking of is a repair manual. Invest in a good one, It will save your a$$.
