Question Clattering noise when starting out...

Hi all! my 5.0L with 4r70w makes a chatter/clattering noise when i first start off. It doesn't last but a second or two max. It doesn't do it every time. I just changed the plugs and wires and cap and rotor. That didn't help. I ran a dose of fuel cleaner through it too. That didn't help.

The sound is sort of like valve chatter.

Any ideas?

Thanks in Advance

What oil filter are you using? If its a Fram, chuck it and get a Motorcraft (2.97 at Wal Mart) or any other brand besides a Fram for the most part. Frams are notorius for causing valve train clatter on start up for the simple reason that the anti-drain back valve in them has a bad surface to seal against (cardboard). It may be that simple.

Are you sure the noiseis in the motor??? I have seen loose catalytic converter heat shields make a similar noise that you hear....rattle at low rpm acceleration

Good point. I am not sure it's motor. Thought too may be tranny - it's ailing big time.

Thanks

Could it be the starter? Mine makes a clatter/grating noise when starting up because it doesn't disengage fast enough. I'm going to replace it over spring break.

This happens when the truck is already cranked and I start forward from a stop.
