Question EGR valve replacement

My check engine light was coming on once in a while, but now is on all the time. EGR valve is what the VAG is reading. Is this easily repaired. Where is this valve and what is involved in replacing it. The Dealer wants $255 to do it. Seems awfully high for a crazy emissions issue.

Any help?

macman2,

The 102 code is;
P0102: CHECK MAF SENSOR SIGNAL LOW INPUT TO PCM. Clean the MAF and reset the PCM to see if the code comes back.

Thanks. How do I go about cleaning the MAF. Where is it?

I just looked again, and the notes say DPFE sensor.

Check engine light had been on for about two weeks. Tonight when I started it up, no engine light. Can these reset themselves. It is extremely cold tonight, would that effect it?

the maf sensor is in the left hand side of your air filter box. be very very carefull cleaning it.

use a q-tip and some windex to clean the wires then do a pcm reset and you should be fine.

when you drive around with the CEL on you should get horrid gas mileage because when the CEL is on the PCM runs an open loop/limp home mode program.

In Case you need a Picture:

This is from HapynZap.

The wire that hcmq is talking about is on the left hand side of the bar that crosses the opening.

Just use the directions for changing the air filter, to get it to the point of cleanign the MAFS.
Be sure to checlk all the hoses again up by the throttle body once you put the air cleaner back together, else it might run like crap if one if off.

Start with the MAFS sensor cleaning, before diving into the DPFE.

If the MAFS had some thing stuck to it causeing the CEL, after 2 drive cycles I think some codes will clear themselves, but I have never confirmed that, I always repair and clear the code. So this is hear-say at the moment.
