Question O2 Sensor

Hey all

Today I was out just cruisn around enjoying the weather, and my SES came on....so I drove up to AUTO BONE and had them read the code, it was a code for "Slow reaction voltage to the Computer" and this was coming from bank 2/primary O2

Does this mean the O2 is just slowly dying, cause I have never thrown this code before..slow reaction, processing....wtf

Oh well just curious if anyone knows why.. Thanks Guys

I had a similar problem in my 4.6L I changed the two downstream sensors (1997 4.6L has 4 sensors, 2 upstream of the cat and two downstream). They were hard as hell to break free, even with the exhaust hot. I nearly twisted one in half. But when I did get them out I noticed that the right downstream one was completely covered in carbon and a reddish deposit (probably from all the fuel system cleaners and gas line antifreeze). It has been running perfect ever since (now has 112,000 miles on it with no major repairs). If you threw the code just once and are not noticing any major performance or gas milage issues I would say drive it a little more. Also do a visual inspection of the wire harnesses (which are pretty open down there) make sure you have no cracks or openings in the insulation on the wires).

Cool

Hey Rick,

Well so far I have not thrown the code again, the restet it for me and it hasnt came on again...And I am still getting 12 mpg so I am normal there....maybe she got pissed off and decided to throw a code, i swear that my truck has a mind of it's own...lol

All of the wires are fine and the o2's look good, I had them out about 3k ago when I gutted the cats and installed the MIL Syms on the back o2's......

Well anything is possible with almost 150 k

Thanks Rick
