Mods, pinging, and maintenance
1) Buying a house so not a lot of extra money at the moment, what are some inexpensive mods that I can do to my truck to improve performance... say under $200 total
2) I bought my f150 in 2001 with 25k mileage, i've had it off road some, driven a little fast at times. I'm hearing people talk about this pinging sound which I haven't heard yet, do I need to worry? and how can i prevent it or try to prevent it from happening?
3) in reading about DewserB's pinging problem I have seen alot of people talking about some maintenance that I didn't know I needed to be doing. I plan on changing the fuel filter, plugs, and all the other basics very soon as the tuck now has 53k on it. What else should I do? I have seen some talk about exsessive carbon build up, etc. Thanks for any advice you can give!

It would be a good idea to change the fuel filter, but if the truck is running OK the plugs should still be good.
As far as performance wise, a K&N drop in air filter will run you about $50. You might consider a performance muffler such as flowmaster, gibson, etc., a dual setup (SI/DO) will run you a little over $200 (my flowmaster SI/DO set up cost $250). A performance chip cost in the neighborhood of $230.
Be warned, once you start with mods you will go over the $200 budget! Its addictive!
