Back to the $#%^%$#@ shop!!!!

Lets see. Picked up my truck on Friday, with a 'new' reman motor. Drove it home from the dealer, 2.5 miles, in garage. Went to Home Depot 4 blocks from my house yesterday, truck was hard to start and had a constant whine, smelled coolant. Started hard coming home from HD, smelled coolant. Rode in with an empoyee today. Came home, wife wanted me to run to grocery store, next to Home depot, 4 blocks up the street. It Whined real loud. Got in to come home from store, truck no crank, no start. Lights, radio okay. Called dealer, towed back to shop. Interested in guesses.

My bet is the motor siezed and needs to be replaced, orthe monkey put the belt on uneven and the alternator didn't charge the batt. I can't wait to hear this one. If they tell me my belt needs replaced, I can sho them the reciept that it was just done 4 weeks and 564 miles ago.

They screwed up.

That is BS; I feel your frustration.

Stay on them to do it right. Have NO mercy. You've already given them their chance and they screwed up.

Please, keep us posted.

I feel your frustration too, but I'd ran from those jackleggs a long time ago.You should know by now they sure don't know what the hell they're doing. You might cut your losses now & find a reputable Dealer to have it repaired right-------then take their a** to court!

I can imagine what your going through and I wish I could offer you some better suggestions as to who to take it to. I haven't had to take mine into a dealer here in Kansas City yet and with any luck, I never will.

I don't know about the belt issue. Those are fairly straight forward. I would think it would be hard to screw that up but your past experience with them would make me doubt anything they did. Coolant....well there's so many places they could have messed up when putting in your long block it's anyone's guess.

Big C: You said you bought yors on Metcalf, I assume that means Bob Allen. I heard that their service dept was excellent. Next time I have to go to a dealer, I am going to try them. Since my problem, I have heard nothing but horror stories from people at work, neighbors etc about S.M. Ford service. This is the last time I deal with them, in any capacity. I bought my truck from Midway Ford, North of the river, pretty far to drive for service but hear they are very good too. All they sell are trucks, may make a difference, I don't know..

12:47 PM, "has been assigned to a tech but all stalls are full, we may get you in today."

Gee, *********n thanks!

Did you open the hood at all to see what it could have been? Did you see any leaks? Did the starter click at all? I wouyld guess the heater hose blew off and shorted out the alt. It is very hard for the motor to seize with just a coolant leak. The V8s since 1997 had a fail safe mode. When the engine over heats, the PCM disables 2 injectors in an alternating pattern to act as an air pump in an attempt to cool off the engine. When this occurs the truck runl like it is on 6 cylinders, because it is. The Check engine light comes on the temp guage is pegged and the oil sensor light is on. If the tec forgot to connect the CHT sensor, Cylinder Head Temperature, it will allow the engine to over heat and fry it.

Please let us know that these idiots say.

Cool

rkm:

Although I have never had a engine problem and I hope that I don't to that extent, I hope everything works out. You were talking about travelling a fair distance to have service work done. I travel about 1 1/2 hours north (about 100 miles or so) to have my work done. I tried the two dealerships here in Windsor and they both screwed me over. NOW, if they get the chance they can change my oil but that is it. Even towed the truck back to MY dealership ($225 CDN) just to keep it away from these two clowns here in Windsor. The one dealership is now owned by another guy and I haven't heard anything so far as to it's satifaction level. Good luck and keep patient.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'

Man, you'd think you would get bumped to the top of the list with what you've already gone through. Yes, I bought my Expy at Bob Allen a little over a year ago and they haven't seen it since I drove it off the lot after signing the papers. Which is why I can't make any recommendations either way about their service dept. Although I doubt they could be any worse than where your truck is now. The experience you've had so far scars you for life when you need to take a vehicle in for service. That sucks.

RK,

I bought mine from Midway, and I've had OK service from them. Here's my list so far:
Driver's Door Crack: Fixed, no arguments. Warranty.
Multi Function Switch: Fixed, no problem. Extended Warranty.
30K Service: Did a bunch of stuff, including changing out rear-end oil. It started whining about 1000 miles after I got it back. They forgot to put in the Friction Additive Modifyer, I've got a posi. Asked them about it, they said they "most likely" put it in. Bullsh*t. I had to buy some and do it myself. Whine went away, but still get it once in a while when cold around corners.
Starter Replaced: No problem, Extended Warranty.
Computer Freaks Out, Engine Dies: Re-loaded Program, fixed problem. Wasn't covered under Extended Warranty.
Back Passenger Side Coil Pack #1: Fixed under warranty.
Back Passenger Side Coil Pack #2: Not Covered, had to pay. Pissed me off, its a design flaw.
Mirrors flaking: Replaced under warranty.
Passenger Side Head Gasket #1: Replaced under warranty.
Passenger Side Head Gasket #2: Replaced under Extended warranty. The #1 fix only lasted about 20K miles.
I'm sure I've missed something, because I've been in there so much for service.
Overall, I guess they've done OK. I work close to there, so its not too big of a deal for me. And they're open almost all the time. The body shop is good, and they are great to deal with. They will listen to you. Service dept. could be better, maybe its because they run so many trucks through? I don't know.
I've heard some bad things about SM Ford, and also Olathe Ford. I tend to stay away from the Kansas Dealers, just a gut feeling.
