Air Force One intake moan?
What's the silencer? I looked inside my stock intake setup even took it apart and I don't see one! I never removed it either so is this only one some models? Mine is a 98 with the 4.6 in it if that matters? Do you have a pic on what it looks like and where it was? Maybe I'll just call AF1 and get some tech info cause I'm lost at this point about the silencer!
The silencer is a black hollow plastic box that is about 1.5" by 3". It is sort of shaped like an L if you look at the round openings (it has one inlet and one outlet where the hoses attach). It is probably still attached to your stock intake via a 3" or so rubber hose. I have the 97 4.6L and know that your 4.6L has the same thing. I assume the 5.4L have this "silencer" as well.
OK, I see what your talking about, it sits near the TB on the drivers side and hooks up to one of the breather lines on the engine breather boot that clamps to the TB and the venturi tube(polished intake pipe). Well being I never removed mine, that kinda puts an end to if "I re-install it it will get rid of the noise!" Any other suggestions on what it may be causing the noise?
A loose hose or clamp will cause air to be sucked in around the two hoses that attach to the intake. I had that problem at first and replaced the hose clamps and made sure all the connections were tight, after that I had to insert the silencer back into place...not one more hint of annoying sound since.

It's a small black box that is located under the throttle body cover! Guys you all say to reinstall it and the noise will go away right? Well I never removed mine so it's still there! I'm using better stainless steel clamps cause the ones that came with the Airforce One Kit broke! I'm sure I'm not sucking air in from anywhere except from the filter. And I still have this moan noise. Any other suggestions? How about pics of what you guys have done other the the black box reinstall? Maybe different hoses or different routing?
